March may be known for chilly weather, St. Patrick’s Day celebrations, and the time we all eagerly wait for spring to arrive, but many people are surprised to find out that it is also National Nutrition Month! If you’re getting ready for the warmer weather, you may want to start with your diet, making sure you’re meeting your nutritional goals. While it may be hard to find healthy foods at your favorite diner in NJ, don’t worry—we’ve picked out a few of our favorite dishes to help you celebrate in a healthy way!
Breakfast Boost Breakfast can be a tasty, healthy option any time of the day, especially if you focus on the healthy benefits of eggs and veggies! Our favorite healthy breakfast option is our eggs Florentine, with two poached eggs served up with sautéed spinach and feta cheese on an English muffin, smothered in Hollandaise sauce. Sure, the sauce adds a little fat, but small amounts of fat help you to absorb vitamins better and leaves you feeling full longer. Of course, for the most filling, fiber-filled, and healthy breakfast, try our hot breakfast cereal topped with fruit!
Lighter Lunches For lunch, our salads and wraps are an easy, portable way to enjoy a healthy meal. All our salads start with mixed or salad greens, and add any assortment of veggies, meats, and fruits. Aim for the veggie-loaded ones, like our Tuscan salad with baby spinach, mozzarella, peppers, onions, and olives, or our tossed garden salad with garden veggies and tomato. Try adding a cup of soup for a filling, low-cal side!
Diet-Friendly Dinners Finally, our main dishes have something healthy for everyone as well! Our fresh seafood selection is a perfect way to eat light while still getting plenty of proteins and heart-healthy oils. Try our broiled shrimp, sole filet, or tilapia filet with your choice of potato and rice and daily veggies for a healthy dinner, or enjoy a hearty meal of turkey, cranberry sauce, and fresh veggies.
Ready for a lighter meal today? Then check out these awesome, healthier dishes next time you visit your favorite diner in NJ! To finish off your meal, go with a healthy fruit cup, or bring a friend to share one of our mouth-watering desserts! Moderation and balance is the key to a truly healthy meal! -

The History of Comfort Food and Our Faves

No matter your relationship with food, you have to admit it can be comforting to sit down with a hot plate. Many people associate comfort food with high-fat, carb-loaded classics, just like mom or grandma used to make! But where did comfort food start off? Chances are, it was with a budget. Read on to find out about the history of comfort food, as well as our favorite warm and filling dishes from George’s Lincoln Park Diner!
The Start of Comfort Food
Comfort food has been a thing since the first humans figured out how to cook. Even infants automatically prefer warm bottles to cold (try feeding a baby a cold bottle for a lesson in failure!), and salty, meaty, and sweet flavors naturally appeal to many living things. We can safely assume that, in times of famine, the offer of food was more than just a comfort, it was a literal lifeline. But when did comfort food take on its meaning as excessive, soft, warm, and delicious? 1966. Oddly specific, but the first new article to cover comfort food from your favorite restaurant was the Palm Beach Post, which credited homemade, classic, warm and gooey foods as comfort foods.
The Best from George’s
If you’re looking for the best comfort food in Lincoln Park, look no further than our corned beef hash! This is one of our most popular dishes for a good reason—it’s delicious! Whether you stop in for breakfast in the morning or any time of the day, our tender corned beef hash will satisfy your cravings! For a classic finger-food comfort, try our baskets! Whether you choose chicken tenders, fish and chips, shrimp, or fried chicken, your basket will have all the tasty, salty crunch you crave, and are perfect for dipping! Pasta pleases everyone! The classic comfort dish is loaded on top of pasta. From tomatoes to cheese to white sauce, we have something for everyone!
Corned Beef Hash

Have you made resolutions this year? If you have, you’re not alone—most Americans love the New Year’s Resolution tradition, and use the turn of the calendar to mark important changes in health and diet. In fact, one survey found that 51% of Americans want to eat healthier in the new year—and 42% resolve to lose weight (you can make more than one resolution). Sow how can you maintain your willpower next time you visit your favorite Diner in Lincoln Park? If you visit George’s, try these light dishes!
Sneak in morning veggies with an omelet!
One of the cornerstones of healthier eating is getting those fruits and veggies in. But who wants to start the day with a salad? Instead, try one of our veggie-loaded omelets! Our Florentine omelet with spinach, onion, and feta cheese is a great choice, or go big with the vegetarian omelet loaded up with broccoli, onion, tomato, and mushrooms. Boost your fruit servings and swap out carb-loaded toast for a fresh fruit cup!
Swim into healthy meals.
The sea provides so many healthy options that we serve up fresh at our diner in NJ! For a healthy seafood feast, avoid the fried stuff and stick with broiled dishes like our broiled jumbo shrimp, broiled filet of sole, or broiled tilapia filet. In fact, if you like the flavor of fresh fish, you may find that broiling tastes even better! Stick to those healthy plans and avoid the French fries—our rice, baked potatoes, and fresh daily vegetables are healthier options that taste just as good!
Sassy salads.
The go-to diet option, salads get a bad reputation sometimes. But if you haven’t tried the salads at George’s, you’re missing out on healthy flavor! Our favorite health-forward salad this month is our Tuscan salad, with healthy grilled chicken on top of a bed of baby spinach, topped with fresh mozzarella, roasted peppers, red onion, and heart-healthy olives!
We know as well as you do that junk food tastes good, and that’s what you usually want when you visit your favorite restaurant in Lincoln Park—that’s why we have plenty of comfort foods on our menu! But if you really want to commit to your goals, consider changing up your standard fare for something new and light! For a quick, light meal on the go, order online and pick up on your way home! -

Last-Minute Holiday Tips from Your Favorite Diner

For young children, the holidays are a time of magic. Stunning decorations, beautifully wrapped gifts, and well-coordinated parties and family gatherings appear out of nowhere, bringing joy and peace… if you’re a child. For adults, on the other hand, the holidays can be a time of stress, filled with tangled decorations, out-of-stock gifts and wrapping paper that tears, and stressful family events that make you want to rip your hair out! Like real-life worker elves at a holiday factory, the best adults are busy working their magic for others to enjoy. So how can you save your sanity this holiday season? Keep reading to find some great tips from the expert planners at George’s Lincoln Park Diner!
1. Delegate appropriately. How do our cooks have time to flip pancakes, grill burgers, and assemble salads for all our customers while the food gets out nice and hot? They give the food to waitstaff to carry out to the table! To make sure the waitstaff has time to take orders and carry that food, our bussers clear the tables. Just like at our restaurant, you don’t have to do everything! If you feel overwhelmed, assign tasks to your partner, kids, friends, housemates, or anyone else involved—you’ll save time, and they’ll get to be a part of the action!
2. Cut some corners. If you know you’ll never get everything done, don’t despair. Here’s a secret: You don’t have to do everything! When time crunches down, pry yourself free by hiring catering instead of cooking the full meal, hiring a housekeeper for a few hours, ordering a festive pie from your favorite restaurant (and passing it off in grandma’s pie dish), or getting rideshare or a cab to pick up relatives from the airport. Money can’t buy love, but it can sure buy time!
3. Treat yourself. Sometimes, what you need most to beat holiday stress is a break! Treat yourself and stop by George’s Lincoln Park Diner for a lunch special during the holiday shopping, or sneak out early and enjoy a quiet breakfast before the stress starts.
4. Focus on what matters. At our diner, we sometimes experience the same challenges as any cooks—product recalls, supply shortages, and surprises from our regular vendors. However, we make sure to keep our customer service, friendly atmosphere, and desire to please strong no matter what! In the same way, keep the importance of the holidays in mind this season. Your family, friends, and quality time together is the key, not any specific gift, food item, or decoration. By focusing on what really matters, you can adapt to anything!
If the holiday stress is getting to you, don’t fret. Free up some time when you order dinner online from George’s, or plan your holiday catering in NJ today! -

Do you love any excuse to celebrate? How about an excuse to eat delicious ice cream? If so, join us at George’s Lincoln Park Diner on November 11th for National Sundae Day! That’s right, someone, at some time, decided to dedicate this whole delightful day to one of the best treats ever—sundaes! Read on to find out the history of the sundae and the offerings you can find at George’s!
Sundae History The history of the ice cream sundae is interesting and hotly contested! Some argue that the sweet treat comes from older words like “sondhi” while others insist it is a reference to the day of the week—some even argue that very conservative religious leaders once thought that ice cream was too indulgent for Sundays, prompting the name change. Others drum up accidental stories of ice cream coming into contact with soda syrups, and these specials only being available on the special day of the week: Sunday.
Sundaes at GLP No matter what you call it or where the name came from, ice cream sundaes are undoubtedly delicious! We offer chocolate, vanilla, and strawberry ice cream at our diner in New Jersey, with caramel, chocolate, and strawberry syrup to go on top. On national Sundae Day or any day, stop by for a delicious ice cream treat!
Other Treats at GLP Love a sweet treat, but not feeling a sundae? We have plenty of other options! Our ice cream floats are filled with the same delicious ice cream, accompanied by soda, or for an indulgent drink from top to bottom, try one of our milkshakes! What would a diner in NJ be without cannoli? Ours is light and crisp outside, creamy and rich inside. Or, try a fruit cup for a healthier alternative. We have something for everyone at George’s Lincoln Park Diner!

Play “Chicken” with GLP During National Chicken Month

For those who eat meat, chicken can be one of the healthiest choices. With naturally low levels of fat and carbohydrates, plenty of lean protein, and a mild flavor that goes well with pretty much anything, chicken is one of many people’s favorite foods! This month, we’ll talk about the best health benefits of this humble protein, as well as our favorite chicken dishes from the menu at George’s Lincoln Park Diner!
Why Eat Chicken?
Ever ask yourself “what is a healthy food to order at a restaurant?” The answer, many times, is chicken! Chicken is filled with lean, low-fat protein, which helps your muscles to grow and helps you feel full, even when it’s been a while since you’ve eaten. This is important in maintaining and balancing blood sugar. It has a good amount of phosphorus, a mineral that strengthens teeth and bones. Some studies have even shown that chicken can release serotonin, an amino acid that helps to regulate mood, reduce stress, and help sleep. Ever see a chicken with glasses? Chicken is naturally good for your eyes, as it provides retinol, alpha-carotene, beta-carotene, and lycopene, all which help human eyes to work better—also, chickens don’t usually take eye tests! If you consume meat, chicken is a sustainable, convenient, and inexpensive way to get lots of nutrients and protein!
Our Favorite Chicken Dishes
If you’re looking for a filling, good-priced breakfast, look no further than George’s! We have plenty of options, but our featured breakfast this month is our protein breakfast wrapped, featuring scrambled egg whites, grilled chicken, and spinach, wrapped up and ready to enjoy! For lunch, we add grilled chicken to many of our salads for a boost of protein and flavor. One of our favorites is our Tuscan Salad, filled with grilled chicken, baby spinach, fresh mozzarella, roasted peppers, red onions, and Kalamata olives, all topped with balsamic vinaigrette. Chicken features strongly on many of our tasty wraps and hot grilled sandwiches, and our chicken and bacon club is a staff favorite! For dinner, our chicken tenders or fried chicken baskets are always hot and fresh, and for the little ones, chicken tenders are the perfect finger food! Next time you’re looking for a great chicken dish in Lincoln Park, stop by George’s for a delicious meal! -
The Benefits of Summer Vegetables

Summer harvest has been fruitful and there are many more weeks left to enjoy a bounty of New Jersey home grown produce. When July melts its way into August this is the time that summer harvest is at its peak. Zucchini and yellow squash is golden and tomatoes are ripening beautifully. Lettuces and all kinds of greens like kale and spinach plus basil and parsley is blooming. Fresh vegetables are part of a healthy diet providing vitamins and antioxidants, and now is when the taste can’t be beat. The chef’s at George’s Lincoln Park Diner in Morris County, NJ are taking advantage of the season serving everyday fare like the Vegetarian Omelete, Garden Salad, and Burgers with all the fresh fixins to upgrading daily specials such as the Broiled Rib Eye Steak, or Fresh Seafood with a potato and vegetable of the day. Buying local assures the freshest of flavors. Even many supermarkets are now stocking the shelves with produce from local farmers. How long lettuce has been sitting around really does have an impact on the nutrition that gets into your body. Some vitamins like A, C, and E can disappear quickly. Don’t you want to eat what tastes the best with the added dose of nutritional benefits too?

While you can’t gobble up the junk food all day, every day, a little splurge now and then can be fun! That’s why the team at George’s Lincoln Park Diner were amused to hear that July 21 is “Junk Food Day.” Read on to find out why junk food can be great and preview our favorite indulgent dishes. Why Eat “Junk Food?” If junk food isn’t healthy, why do we eat it? The answer has a lot more to do with our brains than our taste buds. Throughout human history, “junk” food used to mean foods filled with calories—think about finding a beehive full of honey, or spending months aging milk into salty, fatty cheese. Before supermarkets and convenient diners in New Jersey opened their doors, these sorts of finds could mean the difference between living through the winter and starving to death! Today, people can get these tasty foods year-round, but we still crave the burst of calories and the delight of eating them. Our Favorites Like most diners and restaurants in New Jersey, George’s Lincoln Park Diner has plenty of foods available for “Junk Food” day! Our appetizers are the perfect definition of salty, savory, and indulgent, with rich mozzarella sticks, gravy-smothered disco fries, chicken fingers breaded to perfection and ready for your favorite dipping sauce, or chili cheese fries! For a sweet indulgence, our milkshakes hit the spot at ay time of day, and our ice cream floats, cannoli, and rice pudding are creamy and delightful! How Much is Too Much? The single most important thing about indulging in rich foods is to use moderation. Maybe a milkshake isn’t the best way to end every meal, but for a special occasion, it can be a delightful snack.

As spring gets into full swing, you may find your taste buds less geared toward comfort foods and more prepared for light, easy foods that sit well in an active stomach. Many people are unaware, but your favorite diner and restaurant in New Jersey may have some delicious, lighter fares available. Ready to see our favorites? Here they are! Salads When it comes to thinking light, most people’s go-to idea is salad. And for good reason—a salad consists of any finely chopped foods, which means that the combinations are nearly endless! For most in the US, salads also signal leafy greens, making these options part of a lighter meal. And we have plenty of varieties at George’s Lincoln Park Diner! One of our favorites is the LPD salad, combining grilled shrimp, mixed greens, red onion, cucumber, dried cranberries, crumbled bleu cheese, pecans, and balsamic vinaigrette. Our visitors go wild for our Greek salad, starting with salad greens and topping with feta cheese, tomato, Greek olives, stuffed grape leaves, and topped with Greek vinaigrette. Seafood Seafood has the benefit of tasting indulgent while still coming in light on calories, fat, carbs, and all those other things people look to avoid while seeking a lighter dining choice. We have a full seafood section, all served u alongside potato or rice and fresh vegetables. Try our broiled jumbo shrimp, served alongside drawn butter and a lemon wedge, or our broiled filet of sole or tilapia for the lightest options. Our fried flounder and fried jumbo butterfly shrimp are a little heavier, but still very popular. Light Protein For a light meal that will last a while, try some lean protein. Our tuna salad or chicken salad is a great choice, as is our chicken marsala, served up with your choice of rice or potato. For a light breakfast “cheat,” try our breakfast menu! Eggs are the perfect source for light protein, and we have plenty of different styles to choose from. Ready for a light lunch today? Stop by George’s Lincoln Park Diner today for a great meal!

You know you love going to your favorite restaurant in New Jersey for a great meal, but should you bring the kids? It can be a hassle, and you may wonder if you’re getting your money’s worth—after all, small children usually pick at foods anyway. But as members of the restaurant industry, those of us at George’s have seen plenty of children come through our diner doors, and there are many benefits to dining out for children. Read on to find out our favorite three! Social Skills Development One of the most important reasons why you should bring your child to a diner in NJ is that they learn important social skills. From appropriate behavior (no, we do not make “art” with our food at the restaurant) to practice being assertive and asking for what is needed, a restaurant is a great place for children to practice those adult skills you hope to have them learn before they head off to college. Great Rewards Going out for a meal is a great reward, and one that many children will work hard for. Whether you need to inspire your seven-year-old to learn spelling words or your seventh grader to turn in her homework, a “big” reward like this is out of the ordinary and exciting! Even more, visiting your favorite diner in Lincoln Park brings us to #3: Quality time! Quality Time Between work, school, and screens, many family members barely get any real “facetime” with those they love. Change this pattern and set a special date at George’s! Dining together is a great way to grow closer, chat about life, and get to know one another better. Meal Options What will your child dine on next time he or she visits at George’s? Great question, and one we have a variety of answers for. Our kids meals start with breakfast, so bring your kids in for an egg any style, Taylor ham and egg sandwich with cheese, pancakes, or French toast. For lunch and dinner, enjoy kids’ classics like cheeseburgers, hot dogs, quesadillas, pizza, spaghetti, chicken fingers and PBJ. Stop by today, and don’t forget the kids!

Calcium is so important, it has been featured on nutritional labels for many decades as the population is encouraged to eat more of this healthy vitamin! Still, most Americans don’t get enough calcium in their diets, which increases the risk for osteoporosis and other diseases. To keep your bones and body healthy, you need plenty of calcium each day. At George’s Lincoln Park Diner, we have plenty of options, including some with calcium. Read on to find out our favorites! Why Eat Calcium? Most people know that calcium is important for healthy bones. But did you know it is also important for helping our blood to clot, the muscles in our body to contract and expand properly, and even our hearts to beat! That’s right, to protect both bones and heart, make sure to get enough calcium each day! Milk and Dairy The traditional place for people to get calcium is from milk and dairy products, such as cream, cheese, or cottage cheese. Swap out the empty calories of a soda and order a glass of milk instead—chocolate milk has just as much calcium as plain white milk, although the sugar can add some calories. Our omelets are filled with plenty of tasty ingredients, including our mushroom, spinach, broccoli, American, Swiss, mozzarella, and cheddar omelet! Veggies Broccoli is a powerhouse of calcium, which is great, because it doesn’t have much else in the way of fat, calories, or drawbacks to make it unappealing. Enjoy steamed broccoli as a side dish, or check out our meals with broccoli incorporated! Dark leafy greens also pack a punch of calcium, which is great if you are trying to lose weight and increase your health! One of our favorite dishes for health and calcium is our Greek salad, filled with leafy salad greens and topped with feta cheese. There are so many great ways to add protein to your diet when visiting your favorite diner in Lincoln Park! Stop by today to try some!

If you’re not getting enough omega-3 fatty acids, your health may be at risk. Even for healthy people, getting enough omega-3 fatty acids is important. Those of us at George’s Lincoln Park Diner know that many of our customers are seeking a healthier eating pattern in 2019, and we’d like to share some of our favorite tips and food ideas! Why eat Omega-3s? Aside from sounding cool, omega-3s have important benefits for your health. One of the first is reducing the amount of triglycerides (fat) in your blood, reducing your risk for heart disease. Next up is immune functioning and inflammation: If you struggle with arthritis, autoimmune diseases, or similar concerns, you may be able to find some relief with a diet full of omega-3s. Your mood may improve as well, as studies of cultures who typically eat diets high in omega 3s have lower rates of depression and improvement with bipolar disorder. We’re not saying a delicious meal will fix these conditions, but it may help! Where to find them? Probably the best source of omega-3 fatty acids in your diet is from fish. Fish, especially fatty fish like salmon or tuna, provide these important building blocks naturally. But never fear—vegetarians can reach omega-3 fatty acid goals through nuts and seeds. Our Favorites Sure, you can find omega-3 fatty acid supplements at your favorite health store, but how do you get enough omega-3s at your favorite restaurant in New Jersey? Try our seafood section! Seafood and sea creatures are packed with omega-3s, and we have a variety of sole, shrimp, and tuna. Eggs are also a great way to get your nutrients, and are filled with omega-3 fatty acids. Vegan or vegetarian? We have something for you! Leafy greens like spinach, as well as nuts and grains can provide important omega 3s as well. Stop by George’s Lincoln Park diner in NJ today for a great meal—and get some nutrition while you’re here!

One of the biggest joys of being a child is the long holiday break, often spanning two to three weeks where there is no school, no homework, and nothing that kids “have” to do! For parents, however, this break may not look like an endless sea of peace, it may look more like an endless cause of arguments, whining, and boredom! Those of us at George’s Lincoln Park Diner love seeing friendly little faces at our restaurant, and we’ve learned some great ideas over the year to bust that boredom! We’re sharing them with you today. Invention and Creation Remember being young and wanting to “make” anything you could? Today’s culture and social media make it easy! Search the web for fun creative ideas such as building structures, creating slime or putty, or making a homemade snow globe. Lovely Lunch Break up the PBJ routine at home and head out for lunch! This is a great way to help your child practice social skills and financial skills, and many restaurants in New Jersey offer special deals at lunch time. Creative Cooking For older kids, as well as those with a parent who loves to cook, cooking can be a fun activity to practice during the holidays. Whether this is helping to get dinner ready, making special holiday cookies, or recreating a favorite dish from your child’s favorite restaurant in New Jersey, this can be a fun way to spend time. For aspiring cooks who are too young to use a stove independently, decorating projects can be very exciting. Choose Charity The holidays are a perfect time to find ways for your family to get more involved in charity! Sponsor a family for the holidays, donate to your favorite cause, or find ways to give time in your community. Ready to tackle the holiday break? Feel free to stop by George’s anytime for a great meal!

Top 5 Alternatives to “Gifts” This Holiday Season
By admin | Posted November 15, 2018 | In Diner News

The holidays may be the time for gift-giving, but gifts are losing their sway. Why? We have everything! In today’s society, we have so much stuff that visitors to George’s Lincoln Park Diner in NJ are talking about what to do instead of gifts this holiday season. Read on to find out our top five favorite alternatives! 1. Event-presents. The hottest gift in 2019 is going to be the event! Instead of stocking up on stuff, stock up on experiences such as tickets to a musical, reservations at a climbing wall, dates out horseback riding, or anything else active! This helps you bond with those you love. 2. Time-presents. With everyone so busy these days, who has time to spend quality time? Those who plan it, that’s who! Some use the classic “coupon” system for quality time, others enjoy symbolic gifts, such as gift card to your favorite diner in NJ, tickets for two to visit a spa, or another bonding experience. 3. Digital goods. Have a friend who’s moved to the internet? Digital goods such as avatar upgrades, game tokens, or digital currency can be a way to support your tech-savvy friends in the real world. 4. Future time-savers. As we mentioned earlier, time is a huge issue, and anything that can save time is a valuable gift. Some ideas that we have heard include gift cards to restaurants with online ordering for tasty meals without hassle, productivity tools such as calendars or schedules, or time-savers like subscriptions to meal-prep kits, entertainment packages, or more! 5. Donations. One of the best things you can do this holiday season is to give. It gives you a warm feeling, and more importantly, it helps your neighbors to meet their needs and survive in today’s challenging times. If you’re struggling to find the perfect gift for someone you know has everything, consider making a donation to a charity they would love in their name, or even anonymously. Remember, the spirit of the holidays is to give, love, and enjoy—not get the most stuff ever! When choosing a holiday experience this year, make it a memorable one. The team at George’s Lincoln Park Diner wishes you a bright holiday season!

Top Tips to Relieve Summer Stress

If you ask most schoolchildren what their favorite season is, they will answer “summer!” Summer is great for kids; there’s no school, plenty of great weather to play outside, and the swimming pool in the area might be open. But for adults, summer can translate into the most stressful season of the year. There’s no school to keep your kids busy, plenty of great weather for them to get into trouble with, and you have to worry about them drowning in that swimming pool! Not to mention, you have your normal bills to pay, grass to cut… you need to relieve some stress! At George’s Lincoln Park Diner in NJ, we see plenty of exhausted people coming in during these hot summer months to cool off and take a break, and we’d like to share our favorite stress-relieving tips this summer! 1. Eat healthy. You may not feel like you have time to do so, but a healthy diet gives you the energy needed to tackle the day. If you don’t have the time to make a healthy meal for yourself, consider ordering online from your favorite diner in NJ. 2. Say “no!” It’s okay to say no to things. Even things you like to do. In fact, when you say “no” to more things, you free yourself up to do the things you truly love. 3. Cut corners with pride. Feeling swamped by the housework? Have the kids do it, or hire help before a big event. Let go on strict standards—do you really need to vacuum every Sunday, or could you live with doing it every other Sunday? Take advantage of the great online ordering options at your favorite restaurant, or go all out and take the family out for a meal. This means no dishes! 4. Prioritize fun. This may seem strange, but if you feel like all you do is work, it’s probably true. This can lead to burning out, which makes you less productive. Instead, schedule some fun time into your calendar and revitalize yourself! For a quick meal out, a great online ordering option, or a catering resource, George’s Lincoln Park Diner has you covered!

July 28th is National Hamburger Day

Did you know that July 28th is National Hamburger Day? That’s right, this classic meal has its own day to celebrate, and what a perfect time for a barbecue! Of course, if you don’t feel like bringing out the grill and wrangling the burgers on your own, George’s Lincoln Park Diner in NJ would be happy to help! Read on to find out more about the history of the hamburger, as well as our favorite dishes. The History of the Hamburger Hamburgers are often classified as an “all-American” food—ignoring the possibility that the name has an association with the city of Hamburg, Germany. In fact, the hamburger, if we consider it to consist of ground, grilled meat on bread, has been around since the Egyptian times! Armies particularly enjoyed hamburgers, as the meat was easy to carry and could be cooked up quickly—or consumed raw! When these dishes came to the US, they first showed up at sailor’s ports, where sailors who had visited Hamburg shared their culinary skills, resulting in a trend of NYC ports offering “Hamburg-style steak”—which we know now as the “hamburger.” Our Burgers At George’s, we offer all the best classic burgers, plus some creative ones as well! We have beef or turkey burgers, and they are served with fresh lettuce and tomato on a Kaiser roll. Enjoy your choice of French fries, potato salad, macaroni salad, coleslaw, or side salad, or upgrade to onions or sweet potato fries. In addition to our classic burgers, we offer cheeseburgers topped with your choice of swiss, mozzarella, cheddar, American, provolone, or bleu cheese. Our specialty burgers include the Pizza Burger, with marinara and mozzarella, the MOM Burger with mushrooms, onions, and mozzarella, the Hickory Burger with bacon, swiss, and BBQ sauce, and the California Burger, with raw onion, lettuce, tomato, and mayo. Not feeling the extras? Order “just” the burger and bun for a great discount! Stop by George’s Lincoln Park Diner in NJ today for a great hamburger—or any other type of meal you can think of!

Show Dad Some Love This Father’s Day

June is the month to celebrate fathers, and those of us at the GLP Diner want to help! We come from a long line of family-owned and operated businesses, so we know just how important family is to the world. This month, we’re sharing some of our favorite ways to celebrate Father’s Day. Do something fun! Dad doesn’t want to sit around the house all day, every day, and neither should you! If you and your father need to reconnect or just build up your already strong relationship, try doing a fun activity together. For some, this can be an active event, like hiking, parasailing, or boating. For those who aren’t as active, a night out at a play, a tour of a museum, or a day spent on hobbies might be the perfect way to spend time. Give gifts that keep on giving. Does dad really need another tie? Does he smile at gifts and then leave them to gather dust? Try a gift that keeps on giving! Treat Dad with a gift certificate to the Lincoln Park Diner and revisit your father’s day celebration again—or, let him choose to spend it with his poker buddies! When you give gifts that keep working, the person who receives the gift is reminded over and over again how much you mean to them. Do something for him.If your father is a project-based guy, he might be less interested in going out for fun and more interested in finishing up his garden or other project. Stop by and help, even if it’s not your favorite thing to do, and share those teaching moments. Capture memories. One of the best ways to build strong relationships is by reflecting on the great times you have had in the past. This year, consider setting up a Father’s day gift that memorializes your father’s fathering experience with a photo album (print or web-based), or scrapbook that reminds you both of the great times you’ve had already. Of course, if you’re looking for a classic way to celebrate Father’s Day this year, take him out to a great meal at George’s Lincoln Park Diner!

If you’ve stopped by George’s Lincoln Park Diner recently, you know that we have some great desserts and entrees to talk about and enjoy. But did you know why our classic desserts taste so much better than the stuff you buy frozen at the grocery store? Read on to find out how George’s Lincoln Park Diner makes it better! Fresh. Our cheesecake tastes so good because it is made fresh. Our ingredients are purchased fresh and used as soon as possible, making sure that they taste as good as they did when we first bought them. Local. One of the things that sets us apart from others is that we try to use local ingredients whenever possible. Instead of using dairy products that have travelled across the country in the summer heat, we seek local New Jersey dairy, eggs, butter, and more when we make our cheesecake. You can taste the freshness in every bite! Family Recipe.Ingredients, freshness, blah blah blah—we have plenty of customers who insist that nothing they try makes their cheesecake like ours! We’re going to have to give credit to our family history, here: we’ve been making our cheesecake fresh and delicious for many years, incorporating the old tips and tricks that George, our owner, learned years ago! Artful Presentation. Our cheesecakes don’t just taste good, they look good! From the perfectly set, but never burned crust, to the evenness of the filling, to the rich, artfully applied layer of strawberries on top, we want to satisfy your every sense—including sights! That’s why we make each cheesecake (or slice of cheesecake) as beautiful as can be. Did we mention fresh? We don’t just start with fresh ingredients—we ensure your cheesecake is fresh by baking fresh each day and sending the leftovers to loving homes (the GLP staff love it too!), making sure that your cheesecake is just as fresh on Friday as it was on Monday, because we baked it that morning! For a tasty cheesecake experience and more, visit George’s Lincoln Park Diner today!

Top Ways to Add more Protein to Your Diet
By admin | Posted April 02, 2018 | In Diner News

Protein, found in meats, eggs, milk, nuts, grains, and legumes (as well as others!) is vital for the health of your body. In fact, it is protein that is responsible for growing muscle, bone, hair, blood, and more—protein is quite simply the building block of the human body! While some research suggests that Americans get “plenty” of protein, this may be a bit of a misconception. At George’s Lincoln Park Diner in NJ, we have plenty of protein options for you to choose from, so we thought we’d share some interesting nutrition research and tips to get more protein. Harvard Says “Yes!” to Protein The Food and Drug Administration in the United States sets nutritional guidelines to help promote a healthy population. Among these is a recommended amount for fat, proteins, and sugars. But unlike fats and sugars, the amount suggested for proteins is a minimum, not a maximum. This means that the amount established is the littlest amount you can consume without getting sick. Going over that amount is a good thing for most people, because it provides more protein to your body and makes it less likely that you will fill up on carbs or fat instead. To put it in perspective, the RDA, or Recommended Daily Allowance, of protein is only about 10% of your diet. However, research conducted in the study suggests that up to 25% of one’s diet can be filled with protein and still be quite healthy! Some, such as the elderly, may need even more protein. Getting more Protein In Hopefully, we’ve made a case for eating more protein. But how do you do it? First, look at the typically lowest-protein meal of the day: Breakfast. Most Americans are more likely to consume cereal, donuts, or other carbs, but a filling meal of eggs, meat, and whole grains will give you more protein and fill you up all day! The omelets at George’s are perfect for packing in the protein! Toss some chicken or shrimp on your salad to boost its protein without adding many calories. Consider alternative proteins as well, such as beans, especially if you are a vegetarian. Ready for a protein-filled meal? Head on over to George’s! We’ll cook it just how you like it! Celebrate Pi Day the Right Way

When you think of holidays in March, your mind will most likely go straight to St. Patrick’s Day. But don’t forget about March 14th—Pi Day! We’re not talking about the pie that you eat, we’re talking about the mathematical constant starting with 3.14 (hence being celebrated on 3/14). So what is pi? Let us take you back to your school days in math class. Pi is the ratio of a circle’s circumference to its diameter. The most recent record-holder calculated the pi has 22.4 trillion digits. So what does this have to do with George’s Lincoln Park Diner in NJ? It gives us an excuse to celebrate and eat pie! Pi Day has been celebrated around schools and in the workplace for years, but it was officially recognized in 2009. Many people celebrate by making circular foods, eating pizza, dressing up, and simply eating or baking pies! We think the best way to celebrate is by eating a scrumptious pie. At George’s Lincoln Park Diner, we make our homemade desserts with fresh ingredients and a touch of love! Come celebrate Pi Day with us; we have an assortment of pies including cherry and apple.

Why Corned Beef and Cabbage on St. Patrick’s Day?

Aside from shamrocks, everything green, and beer, one of the first things people think of when they hear St. Patrick’s Day is corned beef and cabbage. Have you ever wondered why corned beef and cabbage is a staple for a St. Patrick’s Day meal? At George’s Lincoln Park Diner, we don’t question why we eat this delicious meal, but we are getting a little curious. What many people don’t know is that corned beef and cabbage is not an Irish dish; it was derived from the Irish Americans. Corned beef was produced in Ireland, but the Irish were not wealthy enough to eat it. However, hundreds of years later when the Irish came to America, they were then able to afford to eat the corned beef that their grandparents could never afford. This is where corned beef and cabbage became a typical St. Patrick’s Day dish. In Ireland, bacon and lamb are the original, and still are the traditional meat of St. Patrick’s Day, but corned beef and cabbage is now the traditional American St. Patrick’s Day dish. St. Patrick’s Day is very different in America than it is in Ireland. Aside from the corned beef and cabbage differences, Irish Americans turned a religious day into a day of festivities, drinking, and eating. Looking to celebrate this year whether you are Irish or not? Head on over to George’s Lincoln Park Diner in NJ, where we are offering Corned beef and cabbage, shepherd’s pie, Irish stew, and fish and chips!

Creative Ways to Celebrate Valentine’s Day in 2018

With Valentine’s Day on the way, many people who visit our diner in Lincoln Park are struggling to come up with a good idea to treat themselves and their loved ones to a great, fun holiday. But do you find that you and yours are bored with the cards, flowers, and candies that are traditional for this holiday? If so, consider some creative Valentine’s Day celebration ideas for 2018!
Gross-Out Kiss-Off. While most people visit a great restaurant or diner in New York to enjoy an upscale meal for Valentine’s Day, you may have more fun with a “gross-out” contest. Instead of enjoying lightly, subtle flavors, go all out and seek out as much garlic, chili pepper, and other “lingering” foods as you can! Does your partner still want to come near you? It’s a sign of true love!
Unconventional Valentines. Are you happy flying solo, rejecting the dating scene for a while, or just not in a place to try to synchronize your life with that of another person? Show someone else you love them! This could be another single friend, a relative, or even your furry friends—after all, you know they were there for you during the breakup! While you can’t bring your poodle to a great restaurant in NJ, you can definitely bring your bestie. For all 4-legged friends, try celebrating at home with takeout!
Love the Forgotten. You know a lot of people seek to donate time, money, and energy to charitable causes during the winter holidays? Many food banks overflow in November and December, and you’d be hard-pressed to find a soup kitchen with room to volunteer in. However, by February, everyone has forgotten about this sector of society, and many are busy being lovebirds on Valentine’s Day. This year, show your love for humankind in general and volunteer! You can bring your partner with you for twice the impact on someone else’s life.
Of course, if you want a traditional Valentine’s Day celebration, you are always welcome to join us at George’s Lincoln Park Diner! -
Top 5 Reasons Why You Should Cater This Holiday Season

You know the drill. You spend all year thinking about the grand holiday plans that you will have for your family, friends, or office, but when the weather turns cold and those holidays hit, you wind up struggling to cook, arrange, or clean up from all that work. How you wish you could just transport your guests to a great diner in New Jersey and let someone else handle it! Teleportation skills aside, we have a solution for your problems: Catering! Read on to find out the top 5 reasons why you should cater your events during this holiday season. 1. Save time. When you cook, especially for a large group, you are committing a lot of your time. You have to plan, prepare, buy the food, prepare it for cooking, actually cook it, serve it, clean it up, put it away… it’s tiring just to think about! Eliminate this time-suck and let skilled chefs prepare your meal. 2. Save money. Most people save with catering, but even more are surprised to find how affordable it is! Certainly, a prepared meal will cost more than the raw ingredients, but once you factor in spices, pans, heating costs, and the cost of your time, you may be surprised! George’s offers catering in NJ for a great price, so do your comparisons! 3. Save space. Many people are living in small spaces, which works great most of the time. But have you ever tried to cook a big meal in a kitchen the size of a closet? Free up the space in your home and let someone else do the cooking. 4. Save relationships. Do you and Aunt Gertrude lock horns each year about how to make the gravy? Eliminate this household stress and have someone else bring the food! 5. Save sanity! Stress is a huge threat to physical and mental health, and few times of year are as stressful as the holidays. Keep your sanity intact and pass this burden onto someone else. Have we convinced you yet? If not, view the catering menu for George’s Lincoln Park Diner in NJ!

2017 marks a special anniversary for George’s Lincoln Park Diner—we’ve been open for twenty years now! We got our start way back in 1997 (boy, does that make us realize how fast time has passed), and we’ve loved every minute of the past twenty years! Let’s take a tour down memory lane! George, our owner, has an associate’s degree in hotel/restaurant management. Before the Lincoln Park Diner, he had owned five other restaurants and a restaurant consulting business… but his true calling had not yet been fulfilled! When the location became available, George saw it and knew he just had to open a diner in this location—and our customers are glad he did! The Lincoln Park Diner in New Jersey has become quite popular, and the owners are so pleased to see this little gem take off! So what have we been doing for these last twenty years? Plenty! In our diner, we make sure to bring fresh, homemade food to our guests whenever they come—and recently, we’ve started to bring it right to you with catering, takeout, and local delivery. As the times change, so do we, because we want to be the best diner in Lincoln Park! We use the freshest ingredients, make sure our staff is friendly and welcoming, and offer special deals and menus. Even more, we focus on the community. We have helped to raise money for the PAL when they needed defibrillators, and many community organizations will testify to our willingness to sponsor, donate, and volunteer. We know that the community is what keeps us going, so we keep them going as well. To all our employees, guests, and community members, thank you for a great 20 years and we’re looking forward to at least 20 more!
